How to Take Advantage of California’s EnergIIZE Program

What is California’s EnergIIZE Project?

The EnergIIZE (Energy Infrastructure Incentives for Zero-Emission) Commercial Vehicles Project is working to improve community health by reducing air pollution from harmful diesel emissions. Started in 2021, the program also aids California’s commercial fleets and industry partners in meeting the state’s climate goals, which is funded through the California Energy Commission (CEC) and implemented by Calstart.

When does Round Four of EnergIIZE open?

The fourth round of the EnergIIZE project for the EV Jump Start funding lane opened Tuesday, July 16 at 9 a.m. PT.

The project fills up on a first-come-first-serve basis. The excitement and high levels of engagement around CEC’s EnergIIZE send a clear signal for the growing need to provide support to California’s commercial fleet industry.

Who Can Apply?

The program is open to all commercial fleets, off-road equipment users, and independent owner-operators within the state and covers up to 75% of eligible project costs. Corporates can either apply to the program directly or by partnering with an Application Partner, like Revolv.

What Does the Application Process Look Like?

Step 1: Choose Your Funding Lane

EnergIIZE has designed four funding lanes to support the unique infrastructure needs of each commercial fleet user: EV Fast Track, EV Jump Start, EV Public Charging and Hydrogen.

  • EV Fast Track Lane: Designated for electric vehicle (EV) commercial fleet users who are currently participating in a vehicle incentive project with a vehicle purchase order and/or have procured medium- or heavy-duty (MD/HD) battery electric vehicles. As part of the EV Fast Track Lane, fleets can receive funding for up to 75% of eligible project costs with a project cap of up to $750,000.
  • EV Jump Start Funding Lane: This lane is meant for electric vehicle (EV) commercial fleet users who are located in or operate 50 percent of their fleet in a disadvantaged or low-income community; are transit agencies; operate school bus fleets; are small fleet owners; or run small business enterprises. As part of the EV Jump Start Lane, fleets can receive funding for up to 75% of eligible project costs with a project cap of up to $750,000.
  • EV Public Charging Station Funding Lane: Commercial fleet users or EV charging station owners interested in deploying publicly accessible charging infrastructure for commercial medium- and heavy-duty (MD/HD) electric vehicles (EVs) may be eligible under the EV Public Charging Station Funding Lane. As part of the EV Public Charging Station Lane, fleets or EV charging station owners can receive funding for up to 50% of eligible project costs with a project cap of up to $500,000.
  • Hydrogen Funding Lane: Commercial fleet users or EV charging station owners who seek to deploy hydrogen refueling infrastructure for medium- and heavy-duty (MD/HD) hydrogen fuel cell vehicles may be eligible under the Hydrogen Funding Lane. As part of the Hydrogen Funding Lane, fleets or EV charging station owners can receive funding for up to 50% of eligible project costs with a project cap of up to $3,000,000.

Step 2: Choose Your Technology

Applicants should review EnergIIZE’s Technology Catalog to determine the types of equipment that are eligible for incentive funding. It is important to note that not all vehicle technology is eligible under the EnergIIZE program.

Applicants can pull from a list of Application Partners (including Revolv) to ensure they’re utilizing electric vehicles, models, chargers and connectors that are qualified under the program.

Step 3: Check Out EnergIIZE’s IPC

EnergIIZE uses an online application center called the IPC (Infrastructure Processing Center) which walks applicants through each step of the application process.

Step 4: Work with Revolv

From choosing the right funding lane to procuring the right technology for your fleet, the application process for EnergIIZE can be long and complex for fleets looking to transition to electric.

If you operate a fleet in California and are seeking guidance on how to utilize incentives and funding from EnergIIZE or other programs, a full-service electric fleet solutions provider like Revolv can help minimize disruption while maximizing progress.

In fact, Revolv recently announced that, in the last funding round, they secured a total of $445,000 in EnergIIZE award funding for two of its existing clients, which will cover 70% of the customers’ total charging infrastructure costs.

As an EnergIIZE-approved vendor, Revolv leads customers through the entire complicated process – from the initial application to program closeout and reporting – to secure critical infrastructure funding for their fleet electrification programs.
